BARNHOUSE August F. Barnhouse, age 86, of Eldon, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born June 11, 1922, in Eldon, Mo., the son of the late Gus and Grace (Monroe) Barnhouse. He was married September 23, 1945, in Eldon, Mo. to Alpha Elizabeth (Stephens) Barnhouse, who passed away on November 7, 2006. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Eldon, Mo. After graduating from Eldon High School he served as a navigator in the United States Air Corps during World War II. He served as the Eldon City Clerk and Treasurer for approximately 15 years. He served two terms as the Mayor of Eldon from 1963 until 1967. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1963. He served as treasurer of the Dept. of Mo. DAV; Chairman of the Finance Committee. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Norris Henley of Eldon; one son, Stephens Barnhouse of Eldon; five grandchildren, Lynne Henley Millard and husband Robert, Matthew Henley and wife Lindsay, Michael Henley and wife Kyle, Elizabeth Barnhouse, and Andrew Barnhouse; six great- granddaughters, Mia, Grace, and Ava Millard, Ella and Claire Henley and Lily Henley; his sister, Ruth Crane of Eldon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Amy Barnhouse and his sister, Madeline Wiseman. Visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Eldon with the Rev. Shirley Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon City Cemetery with flag folding being provided by Eldon V.F.W. Post #2442. Memorials are suggested to DAV Chapter 17, First Christian Church of Eldon or to the Eldon Montessori Children's House. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.phillipsfuneralhomeeldon.com
