Iver Gunderson was born in Norway on May 11, 1812. About 1840, he married Johanne Solerud. The couple had six children. Johanne died in 1865 in Norway. Iver's son Gunerius left Norway in 1867 and settled in Kenyon, Minnesota, he may have been sent ahead to see what the conditions were in America. On April 24, 1868, Iver and his children Maren, Olai, Ole & August, boarded a steamer bound for New York. Iver had registered his family to leave Norway on April 15, 1868. They arrived in Minnesota on May 4th and Iver took over the farm that Gunerius had bought. Iver died in Kenyon on December 3, 1875 and is buried in the graveyard of the Old Stone Church.
