Information from Tricia Henderson:
Confederate Soldier
Enlisted in Company A, Virginia 30th Sharp Shooter Battalion on 10 Sep 1862.
The Raleigh Herald, Beckley, West Virginia
Friday, October 27, 1916, page 1
Eli Williams at a ripe age of 81 years, 10 months and 2 days, died of heart failure at the home of his daughter, Mrs James Bailey, on North Sand Branch Tuesday evening, October 24, about 6:30 o'clock.
This aged, highly respected and widely known pioneer citizen was the son of John Williams, one of the first settlers of Raleigh county. He belonged to a family of 17 children out of which only one survives - Andrew Williams of Huntington. It is doubtful whether a larger blood relationship exists in the county than does through the offspring of this family.
He is survived by four sons - Will, Tom, John and Burk and two daughters, Mrs James F Bailey and Mrs Effie Stover.
The funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at Prosperity in the presence of a large concourse of friends, relatives and neighbors.
The Herald joins the large host of relatives, friends and neighbors in extending sympathy to the immediate family of the deceased in this hour of bereavement.
