Marie was born on March 29, 1903 in Pueblo, Colorado, the oldest child of Frederick and Anna (Heushler) Fiechtl.

She attended school in the Bronson, Kansas area until age 10. With the death of her mother, the family moved to Cherryvale, KS, where she completed the eighth grade and began business college in Coffeyville, KS.

Marie was united in marriage to Roy Albert Nelson, a conductor for the interurban railroad company, on July 8, 1924 at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Cherryvale, KS. Roy preceded her in death on December 12, 1991.

They bottled and delivered grade A milk to the grocery stores, drug stores, hotels, and restaurants in Humboldt, in addition to door to door deliveries.

She was a devoted, hard working housewife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished her family and her faith.

She excelled in flower and vegetable gardening and in food preparation – preserving kraut and pickles, making pies, homemade bread, butter, fudge, and fried chicken and gravy.

Marie put God and faith first in her life, being a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Humboldt. She was also a member of the Cherry Grove HEU, the Advisory Board, and the Altar Society.

Marie is deeply loved and all who knew her will miss her sweet smile which was so freely given.
