One of Lancaster's Best Men Dead - Thomas Baumgardner, one of the most prominent citizens of Lancaster, is dead. He was 84 years of age and was born in York county. He came to Lancaster when a young man, and engaged in the dry goods business. he was active in the movement to locate the Comen Mills, and after retiring from the dry goods business, engaged in the coal business, having been a pioneer operator. He was the first to ship coal from Shamokin Calley to the seaboard. He owned extensive mines and had large yards in Lancaster.
