He was born on July 3, 1904 in the Town of Washington, Sauk County, the son of John and Emilie (Baumgarten) Elfers. On November 1, 1929 he was united in marriage to the former Vera A. Gudenschwager. Gerhard was a longtime area farmer. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; a daughter: Delores (Marvin) Muchow of Loganville; a son: Richard (Linda) Elfers of Waukesha; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son: Gerald; two grandsons: Roger and David Muchow; a sister: Esther Hasse; and three brothers: Otto, Edwin and Arnold Elfers.
Funeral services were held on April 4, 1994 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Loganville. Interment was made in St. Peter's Cemetery.
