Ralph was born Sep. 22, 1918, in Branchland, a son of the late John L. and Lema Edwards Dean. He was a graduate of Hamlin High School and attended both Marshall University and WV Tech.
He was a retired custodian for the Cabell County Board of Education, a former Circuit rider for the Methodist Church, and an ordained Freewill Baptist minister for over 60 years. For over 21 years he had a local radio program called Moments of Prayer and Praise and was a member of Union Freewill Baptist Church of Griffithsville, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Vonda G. Dean of Huntington; a son, Ronald L. Dean Sr. and spouse Diane of Huntington; two grandsons, Richard R. Tickett of West Hamlin, Ronald L. Dean Jr. of Huntington; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca Tickett of Huntington, Shawn Hutchinson and Joshua Tickett, both of West Hamlin; sister, Mary Ferguson of Catlettsburg, KY. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Chapmans Mortuary, Huntington, and after noon Wednesday at the church.
