Walter Willson O'Connell, 99, of Hagerstown MD, passed away, Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Wednesday, August 4, 1909, in Montgomery, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Charles O'Connell, II and the late Mary Julia Willson O'Connell. His wife, Evelyn Louise Cannon O'Connell preceded him in death in 1982.
A graduate of Hagerstown High School he attended Mt. St. Mary's College. He was a salesman for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church since 1912, where he ushered. He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society. He was a past president of the Blue and Gray Model T Club of America and member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
He is survived by two sons, Walter Willson O'Connell, II and wife, Patti of Short Hills, NJ, Daniel Michael. O'Connell and wife, Diane of Hagerstown, MD; and five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances O'Connell and Mary Lucia Wood and one brother, John Charles O'Connell, III.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, March 9, 2009, at 10:00 AM, from the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Father Colin Poston officiating.
Family received friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 7:00 PM-9:00 PM, Sunday, March 8. Rosary was said at 8:30 PM.
Interment was at 1:00 PM at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland.
