Lessie is the daughter of Wesley Washington Dolinger (1868-1929) and Martha Mary Blevins (1868-1901.) Martha died before Lessie's fourth birthday. Wesley and step-mother Alice Pruitt (1879-1941) raised her and her siblings. At the age of 15 she wed Lon Roark. Together they had seven children: Bertha (1915 - 1985), Ray (1918 – 1973), Elmer (1922 - 2003), Lonzo, Jr. (1924 – 2003) and the twins Jack and Jacqueline, born in 1928. Lon was a coal miner and family moved from Tennessee to Pike County Kentucky to follow the working coal fields. In the 1950's, the family moved to the west side of Columbus, OH. Lon and Lessie were married 62 years at the time of Lon's death.
