Wanda Smith

Wanda L. (Bonnie) Smith, 79, of Kuna died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Central Assembly Christian Church, Boise (Fairview & Cloverdale). A reception will follow the service. Burial will be in the Kuna Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.

Bonnie was born in Fruitland on Oct. 8, 1928, to Ray and Ester (Nichols) Duell. Bonnie enjoyed much of her early years with Grandma Sadie Duell. She attended Fruitland schools and graduated with the Class of 1946 with many of her lifelong friends.

Bonnie met Ray Smith while attending Beauty College. They were married June 19, 1949, in Weiser. They spent two years in Boise, and one year at the Stibnite mining camp where Ray drove truck. They moved to Kuna in August 1952, where Ray operated the Barber Shop. They decided that Kuna was a pretty nice place to live and raise their family. Bonnie operated a beauty shop in Kuna for a while until Ray and Bonnie found that they were going to be the parents of twin daughters.

Bonnie stayed home as a full time mother and housewife for many years which she enjoyed very much. Bonnie lived a wholesome and fruitful life; loving others and was loved in return, what more could we ask. She was a loving, kind and caring mother, wife, partner and soul mate. She was an excellent cook and loved having her family over on the weekends for a hearty meal and lots of fun.

Bonnie's grandchildren were very special to her. She cared for them, took them bike riding, hiking, fishing, and out to their favorite restaurants for lunch. Bonnie enjoyed getting outside in the fresh air, planting trees and shrubs all over the place. Flowers were her favorite thing to do. She truly loved her Idaho mountains, hiking on the sandy beach of Cascade Lake with her dog, Gotcha, picking huckleberries, fishing or just enjoying the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery.

Bonnie discovered the love of God early in life. She always wanted to share that love and kindness with others. She taught Sunday school for many years, loving and caring for the little ones of the Church.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Ray of Kuna; daughters, Kellie (Mike) King of Kuna, Camie (Tony) Uria of Nampa; brother, Ron Duell of Payette; granddaughter Kendra (Zac) Friberg of Portland, OR; grandsons, Jason (Jocelyn) Uria of Vancouver, WA, Charlie King of Boise, Chris King of Meridian, Paul (Crystal) King of Nampa; great-granddaughters, Allison King of Kuna, Danaka McCoy of Boise; nephews, Steven (Candy) Duell of Boise, Ron (Judy) Duell of Florida and Dennis (Cheryl) Duell of Ohio. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.

Mom, we will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile so very much. But we have all those memories of all the good times we've had through the years.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to all of you who have offered prayers and words of encouragement in our time of need. We also want to thank the nurses at Horizon Hospice, Bretta, Carie, Kim, Shannon and Lynn.
