American Impressionist Artist. He studied at the Denver School of Art under William Henry Read, and in New York under John Henry Twachtman.

Austin moved to Southern California at the beginning of the 20th century and opened a studio in Santa Monica. He taught and founded an art school, and was a member of the California Art Club and the California Watercolor Society.

He is best known for his paintings of the Southern California coastline, southwest pueblos, the California missions and desert landscapes.

He often visited Mission San Juan Capistrano and, in 1911, he painted actress Mary Pickford's first wedding on the mission's grounds.
