New Douglas - Fred C. Seeger, a retired farmer and laborer, died suddently Friday at 3:20 p.m. at a grocery store operated by his granddaughter and husband. He died of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Seeger resided in Old Ripley as a youth, then to Sorento and vicinity, Walshville and in New Douglas the past seven years. Born March 1, 1880 in Old Ripley, he was the son of the late Jacob and Albertina Kuene Seeger. He was married to Minnie Belle Peterson on July 31, 1901 in Pocahontas. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1961. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and three daughters, Fred Melvin Seeger, Weeping Water, Nebr., Eugene Seeger, Pocahontas, Mrs. Herman (Golda) Schweppe, New Douglas, Mrs. Pearl Pakocich, Mt. Olive, and Mrs. Harfield (Helen) Cory, Litchfield, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one half-brother, David Zoeller, Sterling, Ill., one half-sister, Mrs. Clara Enlow, Gillespie. A son, Virgil; two brothers, Robert and Oscar Seeger and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Gordon and Mrs. Carrie Cruthis, preceded him in death. Mr. Seeger was a member of the Baptist Church, the Brotherhood of the church and was a Deacon of the church. The body may be viewed at the Lesicko funeral home after noon Sunday until noon Monday when it will be taken to the Baptist services at 2 p.m. The Rev. Church to lie in state until the George Hudson of Chandlerville, Ill., will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Harvey Hopper, church pastor. Interment will be in the Brown cemetery near Old Ripley.
