Charles H. Vogel, 75, of 724 Adams St., Kiel, died Friday evening March 13, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 20, 1933, son of the late Walter and Marie (Schmitt) Vogel. Charlie attended George Washington Grade School in St. Nazianz and was a 1950 graduate of Kiel High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On Sept. 8, 1956, Charles married the former Alyce Krueger at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Reedsville.

In 1967, Charlie and his brother Chester established Vogel Chevrolet-Olds Inc. of Kiel. He was still very active in the family business. Charlie was a former member of Zion Evangelical Church in Louis Corners where he served on church council. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel, where he was a council member and past president. He also served as convention delegate to the WELS Synod, was an usher, an elder and choir member. Charlie was very instrumental in founding the Trinity Lutheran School. Charles was very involved in many organizations and clubs including, the Board of Regents at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Board of Directors for Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Services, past president for the Kiel Area Association of Commerce, a lifetime member of and past president of the Kiel Kiwanis where he received the designation of Citizen of the Year in 2003. He also was active in the Monday night golf league at Quit Qui Oc, a meals on wheels volunteer and a former member of the St. Nazianz Fire Department. In his professional career, Charlie was active with WATDA-Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association and NADA-the National Auto Dealers Association. He served on the Oldsmobile Board of Governance, he was elected to the Chevrolet Dealer Advisory Council several times, and he received the Top Chevrolet Dealer Award and achieved Oldsmobile Elite Dealer Status four times. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, recording two holes-in-one, and he enjoyed spending time at Cedar Lake, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and travel. He also built scale display model airplanes.

Survivors include his wife Alyce of Kiel, his children; Jennifer (Joel) Lulloff, Mike (Mary) Vogel, Scott (Donnell) Vogel and Rebecca (Randy) Meyer all of Kiel. His grandchildren; Jason Lulloff, Aly Lulloff and fiance Andrew Schultz, Tara Vogel, Leah (Mark) Hersey, Susan Vogel, Megan Vogel, Samuel and David Vogel, Mitchell, Hannah and Evan Meyer. Great-grandchildren; Isabella and Savannah Hoier, Lainey Hersey and Paris Lutze. Charlie is further survived by sisters; Marion Christel and Shirley (James) Kimberlain. Sisters-in-law; Mary Vogel and Nancy Spoentgen.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Marie Vogel, in-laws: Louis and Ethel Krueger, brother: Chester Vogel, sister: Arlene Vogel, brothers-in-law: Lambert Christel and George Spoentgen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel, with the Rev. David Laabs and Rev. Jeremy Cares officiating. Burial in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Louis Corners. Friends may call at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Trinity Lutheran School.

Charlie's family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at Froedert Hospital, especially Dr. Quebbeman, Dr. Fareau, Dr. Rilling and Mary Robertson, Also to Dr. Deubler and the nurses and staff at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice, especially Sandra. Your compassion and care was deeply appreciated.
