In 1863 John and America were living in Nodaway County, Missouri. While in Missouri eight more children were born to the couple. On December 21, 1867, John H. Caldwell bought 40 acres in SE Nodaway County (DB 24, PG 319). He and America sold this land on January 18, 1870 (DB 24, PG 318).
In 1900 John and America Caldwell moved to Loveland, Colorado to be near several of their children. On February 6, 1919 America died at her home at Eighth and Washington in Loveland, Colorado. After America Virginia died John Henry moved to Harlan, Kansas, where he lived with his son, John Francis. John Henry died on February 26, 1922 in Kansas and is buried next to his wife, America, in Loveland Burial Park, Loveland, Larimer, Colorado.
OBITUARY
The death of Mrs. J. H. Caldwell, a resident of this city since 1900, took place at 6:30 o'clock Wednesday evening at her home, due to a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Caldwell was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Nov. 24, 1840, and was 78 years old at death. Her maiden name was America Virginia Singleton. She was married to Mr. Caldwell in 1857 in Kentucky and moved with him to Missouri in 1863. The family came to Loveland eighteen years ago.
Twelve children were born to them, of whom eight are living. Mr. Caldwell is very feeble in health. The children are H. C. Caldwell, Longmont; Mrs. H. A. Turner, Portis, Kas.; Mrs. W. M. Roark, Cross Timbers, Mo.; Mrs. J. C. Pettigrew, Golden City, Mo.; D. C. Caldwell, Grover, Colo.; J. F. Caldwell, Harlan, Kas.; Mrs. H. T. Pettigrew and W. C. Caldwell, of Loveland.
With the exception of Mrs. J. C. Pettigrew and Mrs. Roark, all the children will attend the funeral services, which will take place in the Baptist church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. W. Atkinson. Mrs. Caldwell had been a faithful member of this church since childhood.
