Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company K, 26th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 2, 1862. He served through the December 1862 Fredericksburg Campaign, and the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, and was honorably mustered out on June 27, 1863.

He then enlisted in the 39th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 5, 1864, and was mustered in as a Private in Company E. He served through the end of the war and was discharged on June 9, 1865 at the Sickell United States Army General Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia.
