CARLSON, Leonard, long time resident of Lancaster, Leonard G. (Swede) Carlson passed away February 23, 2009, in Deltona, Florida. Born January 28, 1913, in Turtle Bay, Wisconsin. A veteran of World War II, Len enlisted in the Navy at the age of 30 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After serving he received a degree in civil engineering and worked for the California Department of Highways and Way Resources until his retirement. He was preceded in passing by his wife Dorothy and sons James and Larry. He is survived by daughters Karen VanVliet and Sandy Hamlin and son Gary Carlson as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster. Arrangements entrusted to Halley- Olsen-Murphy, Lancaster.
