Albert Iver Sorenson was born on June 29, 1904 in Fertile, Polk, Minnesota to Soren Iver Sorenson and Johanna (Jennie) Otelia Skauge. On November 21, 1922, Albert Iver joined the military in Duluth, Minnesota serving at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He was discharged from service at Fort Snelling on August 20, 1924.

Albert Iver Sorenson's nickname was Baba. Baba, a Freemason, was a long-time member of the Minnehaha Shriners Lodge #165 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Big Brothers Unit and dedicated a lot of his time helping children who were patients at the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis. On February 20th, 1951, Baba was accepted into the Order as a Master Mason. On December 27, 1951, Baba became a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. On May 9th, 1952, Baba was accepted into the Order as a Zuhrah Noble with the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.

Albert Iver married Lauriana (Lorna) S Alango on Friday, July 17, 1925, in Duluth St. Louis, Minnesota. They were divorced in Duluth, St. Louis, Minnesota, on June 18, 1929.
