Son of Timothy Lindley Garrigus and Elizabeth Alison Ferree. Residing in Greentown, Indiana at the time of enlistment. Enlisted on October 24, 1864 as a Sergeant in the 140th Indiana Infantry, Company K. Died at Stanton General Hospital, Washington DC.

He was first married to Leah A. Garrigus on 8 Aug 1861; she died 1863; married Harriet Johnson 21 Jan 1864.
