CALLAWAY'S OLDEST NATIVE CITIZEN DEAD
JAMES N. McCLANAHAN PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF DAUGHTER, MRS. KIMBRELL
BORN IN COUNTY, APRIL 1833
Died Early Thursday Morning After Falling and Breaking His Hip on Saturday Last Week.
James Newton McClanahan, 93 years old, died at one o'clock Thursday morning at the home of his daughter at 809 Bluff street. Mr. McClanahan had been in failing health for several months and on Saturday sustained a broken hip in a fall and was not able to regain his normal condition afterwards.
Mr. McClanahan is the last of a family of ten chidren. His parents came to Missouri from the state of Kentucky in 1832 and settled on a farm northwest of Fulton near the cite of Earl. On April 1, of the following year, Mr. McClanahan was born. He grew to manhood and spent the larger portion of his life in that section of the county. For the past 33 years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. B.B. Kimbrell.
On January 9, 1861 he was married to Miss Louisa Selby who died 19 years later. Four children survive and are as follows: Samuel McClanahan, Mrs. B.B. Kimbrell and J.P. McClanahan of Fulton and Mrs. A.H. Miller of Columbia. There are also 10 grand children and one great grand child besides many other relatives and friends.
The deceased united with the White Cloud Presbyterian church west of Fulton in 1850 and was a member of that church for the past 76 years. In 1873 he as ordained and installed as an elder in that church and served for the past 53 years. He was a substantial and esteemed farmer of the county and one of the oldest men of this section. His passing will be mourned by a large number of relatives and friends.
Funueral services will be conducted at the Kimbrell home at 809 Bluff street at two o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. C.F. Richmond of Paris, a nephew of the deceased, will be in the Prairie Chapel **** by the side of his wife.
