ETIWANDA NOTES

ETIWANDA, Feb. 17 – Mrs. J.E. Perdew sustained a broken rib as the result of a fall in the yard of her home a few days ago.

Nettie's grandson, 'Jack' Perdew, recalls that Nettie had a huge, four circle wood-burning stove which may also have had an oven. The house probably didn't have a heating system, and the heat which emanated from the stove kept the kitchen warm, making it the popular place for the family to gather.

The kitchen also contained a rectangular table large enough to seat 6-8 people and it was frequently used for card games. While the family played cards, Nettie was always busy, standing and working at the stove or at the kitchen sink.

'Jack's' only recollection of food cooked frequently was pink beans with ham hock and cornbread.

In the living room, there was a player piano with foot pumps and paper rolls of music which her grandchildren loved to amuse themselves with, as Nettie and Joseph didn't yet own a radio.

Nettie and Joseph's sons, Tom and Chester as well as their granddaughter, Pat, also lived with them.

24 yr. old son, Thomas Perdew, a contractor/well driller, b. in CA.

Chester's 3 yr. 8 mth. old daughter, Pattsie R. Perdew, b. in CA.

Nettie's father was b. in Scotland and her mother in England (should be Australia).

Joseph's father was b. in IA. and his mother in OH.

Pattsie's father was b. in CA. and her mother in TX.

Joseph was 26 years old and Nettie was 17 when they married.

No one in the family was a military veteran.
