Perry J. Dunn died at his home on West Wea street Sunday morning after a long illness. His health had been very poor for years and for nine months he was bedfast, his condition being most critical during that time. A patient sufferer he made a valiant fight that won admiration. Perry J. Dunn was born Aug. 1, 1853 in Switzerland County, Ind., so at the time of his leaving he was past 78 years old He attended rural schools and taught school a year or two. He was married to Mahala Land in Indiana March 6, 1878. They came overland to Kansas in 1879 and settled on a farm near Winfield. The following year they came to Paola and farmed North of Paola. Then they moved west of town to what is now the Gilmore place. Mr. Dunn was employed on the construction of the Frisco railroad and the family moved to Paola. After the Frico was built Mr. Dunn took up his trade as a carpenter and conintued in that occupation until his health failed. He was a member of the Paola Christian Church 18 years, was an elder in the church 14 years and the last two years of his life he was elder emeritis. For 40 years he was a member of Paola Lodge No. 11., I.O.O.F., and was a past noble grand of that lodge. He is survied by his wife and six children; Cora, wife of A.J. Kane, of Wichita; William P. Dunn, of Muskogee, Okla; C. Vernon Dunn, of Kansas City; Clara, wife of Fred Beets of Hillsdale; Pearl, wife of Fred Hagemeyer, Paola; Lola, wife of Clarence Low, of Fontana. A duaghter, Lettie May, died in infancy. Mr. Dunn is also survived by 18 grandchildren, one great grandchild and two sisters, Miss Ida Crouch, Windfall, Ind., and Mrs. Hester Burgett, Kempton, Ind., a brother Nelson O. Dunn, died Dec. 24, 1931, at Florence, Indiana, and another brother, Duncan D. Dunn, died Feb. 6, 1932 at Kempton, Ind., so the three brothers died within just a little over two months. Perry J. Dunn was an industrious, upstanding citizen. He was always interested in public affairs and served several times as councilman of Paola. He was at one time chairman of the Republican County Central Committee and was treasurer of that body several times. A good, well-rounded life was lived by Mr. Dunn. He helped make a community better. He was a devout man and lent his influence and his talents for moral upbuilding. Funeral serves were held in the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Marion A. Brown, who was assisted by Dr. T. Restin Heath. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Joyce sang, with John Mockabee at the piano. The bodybearers were I. J Lay, Willard Yeater, Ira McCallon, Tom Highley, Fred Courter and C. W. Ricketts, all members of Paola Lodge No. 1 I.O.O.F., which had charge of the burial in Paola cemetery. The children of Mr. Dunn were all here when death came. Those from out of town here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Land, Mrs. Wm. Larzalere, James A. Fisher, Ralph Pope, John Audie, Chas. A Boyce, John Pfahler, Geo. B. Sykes, Mrs John Sykes, Miss Helen Payne, Mrs Fred Starry, Kansas City; Dr. and Mrs D. L. Murray, Colorado Springs; Mr and Mrs. Jet Wiseman, Mr and Mrs Chas E. Land, Mr and Mrs. Earl Land, Mrs Maude Moore, Drexel; H. P. Beets, Miss Marjorie Beets, Miss Pauline Beets, Max Beets, Hillsdale; Mr and Mrs Frank A. Land, Spring Hill; Miss Adda Grissell and Mrs. Robert Freeman, Osawatomie.
