Arthur Paul Hicks was born on May 12, 1931 in Bettendorf, IA
to George Edward Hicks and Rose Ann Judson-Hicks. Paul was one of
eleven siblings in the Hicks family: Merle Morris, George Eugene, James
Edward, Charles Russell, Howard Wilford-John, Arthur Paul, Ethel, Emma
Helen, Rosella Mae, Nancy Lee, and Neomi Ruth.

Paul was raised in Scott County, IA
where, at the age of four, he was struck by an automobile, which
resulted in a broken neck and a paralyzed arm. In 1953, he had an
operation that allowed him to use his right arm again. That same year,
he got his first guitar.

Paul
was married in Scott County, IA and had seven sons; Robert Leroy (May
13, 1953), Justin Wayne (October 9, 1954), Clifford Eugene (November
27, 1955), Arthur Paul, Jr. (December 31 1956), Dennis Jay (May 28,
1958), Darrell Edward (January 14, 1960), and Alan Paul (October 18,
1969).

In
1955, Paul played with his first band, the Rovin' Ramblers, which
consisted of Harry Sours (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Irvin Sindt
(lead guitar), and Paul (rhythm guitar). That same year, Paul wrote his
first song, "Every Beat of My Heart".

In 1966, he left Davenport, IA, for Noble County, OH.
In 1975, Paul was born again and was baptized, leading to the writing
of "Call to Witness", which would be set to music decades later. On
January 17, 1991, he married Alice Evelyn Holtzshuh, and they renewed
their vows on February 12, 1994.

In
the mid-1990's, Paul planned a reunion with the Rovin' Ramblers, but
Harry passed away before the reunion was to take place. Over the years,
Paul played with several bands, including the Barry's Ridge Baptist
Church Band, until he lost the use of his arm again in the mid 1990's.

In 2000, Kevin Lauer became the pastor of the Dexter City United Methodist Church
where Paul attended with his family. They became close friends and
began to play music together. On different occasions, Kevin's band Krusade accompanied Paul in concert.

In 2001, Kevin and Paul wrote the music for Paul's "Call to Witness" and began to record Paul's CD, "Cherish" at Whoville Music Studio in Beverly, OH. In 2004, "Cherish", was completed and released on Godflower Records. Click here for more information about the project.

Paul
continued to do occasional singing engagements in southeastern Ohio
until his failing health rendered him homebound.
