Richard, a son born to Fleming C. Nickell and Elizabeth Jane Oakley, had five brothers, James Monroe, Alvino "Allie", Andrew Walker, William A., Morrison, and Frank (died as an infant); and three sisters, Elizabeth J. (Cannoy), Nancy Ann (Claypool) and Eliza Jane (died as an infant).

Richard married Mary D. Nickell, 24 Nov 1887, in KY. They had Rollie F., Grace (died as an infant), James Garrett, Robert Glen and Earl.

Richard's second marriage was to Minnie Flora Henry (Lewis), 15 Nov 1906, in Morgan Co., KY. Their children were Ova J., Denzel Ray and Warren Lee (last two are twins).

Richard's third marriage was to Nancy "Nannie" Jane Adams (King), 15 Sep 1920, in KY.

His fourth marriage was to Mary Ann Ward (Roberson), 18 Sep 1926, in Morgan Co., KY. Mary Ann Ward Nickell is not buried in this grave next to Richard, but is buried in the Kelly/Ficklin Cemetery, Montgomery Co., KY

Richard moved to Fulton Co., IN from KY in about 1920.

Richard J. Nickell, 69, who resides 5 miles west of this city, passed away at his farm home Saturday (December 24, 1932) afternoon at 4:45 o'clock. Death resulted from injuries which he received last Thursday when as auto in which he and his wife were riding collided with a truck belonging to the American Circus Corporation of Peru. Mr. Nickell suffered a fractured leg, a punctured eye ball and a crushed chest. He was immediately brought to Woodlawn Hospital but his condition gradually grew worse until the end.

The deceased had been a resident of this community for the past 15 years, coming to this locality from Kentucky. Richard J., son of Phlem and Eliza Nickell, was born in Morgan County, Kentucky on April 22, 1863. On September 18th, 1925 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Ward) Nickell. The deceased's first wife preceded him in death several years age. Survivors are the widow, five sons, Rollie of Charleston, IL., Warren, of Mishawaka, James, Earl and Ova all of Rochester, Three brothers, James, of near Rochester, Walter and Allie, of Kentucky, 8 grandchildren and a step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Ficklin, of near Rochester. Funeral services were held at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home Monday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. John Wallenburg officiating. Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
