Elmer Landreth died at age 50 of heart failure. He was the postmaster of Austin, Colorado at the time of his death.
Obituary printed November 17, 1911 in Austin, Colorado:
"Austin Postmaster dead after protracted illness. Elmer Ellsworth Landreth, 50 years old, postmaster at Austin for several years past, died about 1 o'clock Monday morning, November 13, after heart failure. He leaves to mourn his untimely death two sons and two daughters, Edwin and Ralph, Ella and Lila. His wife having died last summer. All the children are grown and reside in the Austin District.
The deceased came to the area a number of years ago and for a time ran a store at Cory. Later he engaged in business at Austin and was made postmaster for that point when the office was established. He was a member of Woodman of the World and held a life insurance policy with Bankers Life Company.
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Monday...one of the daughters of the deceased has run the post office for some months now and it is highly probably, according to reports, that she will secceed to the position."
