Leander (Lee) Hickmann, age 81, formerly of School Hill, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Oak Creek Assisted Living after a 3 month battle with pneumonia secondary to COVID-19.
Lee was born on May 23, 1939 in Sheboygan, son of the late George and Clara (Koeser) Hickmann. Lee was a jack of all trades, a great farmhand, and could fix just about anything he was asked to. Lee loved cutting wood and driving his tractor anywhere he wanted to go. After moving to Oak Creek, he began volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul and did so for many years. He enjoyed all of the friendships that he made there. In his free-time he enjoyed playing checkers and Chinese checkers, cheering on the Packers and the Badgers, and teasing anyone who crossed his path.
Lee is survived by his sisters-in-law: RoseMary Hickman and JulieAnn Hickmann. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Ella (Milton) Meyer, brothers: Alfred, Norman, Ralph, Raymond and Elmer Hickmann.
Graveside Service for Lee will be held at Union Cemetery, Louis Corners at 11:00AM on Monday, April 5, 2021. Casual attire of jeans will be encouraged, as we know Lee was fond of his jeans and flannel. Officiating at the service will be his niece, Kymn Schicker. A time of gathering will be held at the cemetery from 10:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM. Masks will be required to be worn at cemetery.
The family would like to thank Vicky Heimermann for everything she has done for Leander through the years and her long-time friendship with him. They would also like to thank the staff at Oak Creek, especially Aimee Fiore, for treating him like family over the years as well as the Kiel Ambulance Service and Kiel Transport for their respect to him during transports over the years. Lee's family would also like to extend a special thank you to Aurora Hospice, especially Jason Fidlin for the special care given to Lee since his illness.
