META MAURER SCHILD
Mrs. Meta Schild, 93, a resident of Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, died there early today.
The former Meta Nest, she was born April 12, 1886, in Stambaugh, Mich., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl N. Nest. At the age of 5, she and her family moved to Stratford,Wis., where she was educated. On April 3, 1913, she and Herman Maurer of the Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc County) were married. They operated the Maurer family homestead for more than 40 years. In 1953 they moved to Kiel. Mr. Maurer died July 21, 1956.
On May 21, 1959, she and the Rev. Peter Schild were married. The couple lived in Fremont and later in Kiel before moving to New Holstein. He died Feb. 19, 1978. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein, the Royal Neighbor Lodge, the New Holstein Senior Citizens and the Frauen Verein of St. Peter UCC, Kiel.
Surviving are a son, LaVerne Maurer of rural Kiel; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; four stepsons; three stepdaughters; 27 stepgrandchildren; 31 stepgreat-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Maurer of Edgar. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter UCC, Kiel, with the Rev. Albert Born, pastor of St. John UCC, New Holstein, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in the Town of Schleswig.
