The Osborne County Farmer, 11 Oct 1917, Thursday

Mrs. Amelia Doane, who died at Lucas Oct. 4, at the age of 73 years and 6 months, was one of the pioneer women of Osborne county, having come to Delhi township in the fall of 1874, and made her home there about forty years, moving into Lucas some four years ago. The funeral was held Sunday from the Delhi church, conducted by the Rev. F. C. Everitt of Osborne assisted by Rev. H. C. Atkins of Lucas, and interment was made at Delhi cemetery. Mrs. Doane's maiden name was Amelia Cahill. She was born March 26, 1844, at Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents moved to southeastern Iowa while she was yet a child, and there she grew to womanhood. For some years before her marriage she was engaged in schoolwork near Primrose, where, on April 27, 1865, she was united in marriage with E. B. Doane, who departed this life in 1886. They came to Delhi township, Osborn county, in the fall of 1874, settling on a homestead which was her home ever since with the exception of the last few years of her life which was spent in Lucas. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Doane, eight sons and two daughters, namely, Frank I. Doane of Douglas, Arizona, Robert B. of Arlington, Colo., John of Osborne, Walter S. of Beloit, Victor R. of Lucas, Dr. Ray G. of Lucas, Ira B. of Cheyenne Wells, Wyoming, Otis E. of Edson, Kansas, Mrs. A. E. Stark of Lucas and Mrs. A. R. Prather of Luray. All the children were at her bedside when she passed away. Besides her immediate family she leaves one brother, James Cahill of Lucas, and one sister, Mrs. E. W. Holcomb of Monteagle, Tenn., and a half brother and half sister, J. I. Davis, Mt. Selman, Texas, and Mrs. Almira Hunter of Kansas City. Thirty-seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her. Her sister, Mrs. Holcomb of Monteagle, wasn't able because of ill health to come to the funeral, which was one of the largest if not the very largest ever held in Delhi township, everybody in the township holding Mrs. Doane in highest esteem and anxious to show it in this last mark of respect to her memory.
