Bradford's father, John Burton emigrated from Hampshire, England, to Canada, where he lived briefly in Bradford, Ontario, Canada. He met and married Margaret Curtis (possibly in Canada). At some point, John and Margaret moved to Eastchester, NY. Margaret died shortly after the birth of their 4th child, most likely in Canada. John left his daughter in Canada to be raised by his parents, and returned to Eastchester, NY. with his other children.


John married his second wife, Maria White (born in Dublin) and had 4 more children, Bradford being one of them. He was named after the town of Bradford, Ontario, Canada where His father John had lived when arriving from England.


Bradford was a member of the North End Hose Company #4 which was incorporated on May 1, 1913. He started the Scarsdale Volunteer Fire Department. He married Bessie Osborn in 1914.


At the time of his death, he was Superintendent of Mails for the US Post Office in White Plains, N. Y.
