Iona was born on October 2nd, 1918 in Bend, Oregon, the daughter of Edwin and Edith Klinkhammer Schott. Iona was raised and educated in the Cedar Valley, Iowa area. She then worked as a domestic for several years. On September 18th, 1936 Iona was united in marriage to William McKay. Iona and Bill then moved to the Keswick and What Cheer area where they farmed. Later in life Iona worked at Amana Refrigeration in Amana for many years and retired from there in 1980. Iona's enjoyments included gardening and crocheting. Iona passed away on Sunday, June 20th, 2004 in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 85.
Iona's memory is honored by her son, Robert McKay and his wife Lucille of Morehead City, NC, a daughter, Carol Reed and her husband Ron of Payson, Arizona, four sisters, Ethel Lamp of Tipton, Iowa, Evelyn Jordan of Hudson, Florida, Dorothy Fink of Texarkana, Texas and Verna Schott of New Sharon, Iowa, ten grandchildren, Janet, Robert, Michael, Steven, Michelle, and Angela McKay, Brian Reed, Brendalyn Rose, and Jeff and Kevin Burdock, Fifteen great-grandchildren, William and Joshua McKay, Cierra and AJ Rose, Shane and Heidi Reed, Rocky Beery, Crystal Pelto, Kyle, Kaleigh, Shellbi, Bobbi, and Kayla Burdock and Alicia and Shanea Barnett, and three Great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Reed, and Lacy and Laura Pelto. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill , a son, Dean McKay, and great-grandson, Scott Reed, and two brothers, Kenneth and Donald Schott.
