NOTE: Martha has no gravestone at this date.

Daughter of Olive Nigus and Josiah Allen.

Married at New York about 1823 to (1) Hawley Decker Smith/Markham, son of Chloe Butler and Joseph H. Smith of Pompey, Onondaga, New York. and step son of Jarmath "Asa" Markham.

Before this husband's death at New York in 1826, Martha had a son, Alonzo Havington, and a daughter, Olive Amanda [who married: (1) Milton Cook, div., (2) John Solomon Fullmer].

Widowed Martha then married (2) David Henry Orser, 28 January 1832 at Washtenaw County, New York. They had six children, four of whom died in infancy and David Orser died in 1843. Martha Orser had her first husband, Hawley, baptized by proxy in 1844 at the Nauvoo Temple and used the surname of "Smith" for his ordinance. She was endowed on 6 February, 1846 in the Nauvoo LDS Temple.

She had joined the Latter-day Saints' Church at that time, and she was in Winter Quarters, Iowa when she married (3) a polygamist, Phineas Howe Richards on 26 November 1847. They had no children.

That marriage may not have gone well, as Richards left for the Salt Lake Valley with the Willard Richard's wagon train and Martha is not on the roster. It is known that Phineas bought a house for some of his wives to stay behind for a time and perhaps that was the end of this marriage.
(Phineas lived until 1874 and was buried at Salt Lake City Cemetery, SL, Utah.)

An "unknown" Martha Richards is recorded as traveling in 1853 with another company of Saints and Martha married (4) Emer Harris at Salt Lake City, 10 September 1855. They lived at Provo, Utah County, Utah until her death in 1860. Emer went to southern Utah in November of 1860.

After her burial at Provo, Emer Harris lived until 1869 and is buried at Logan City Cemetery, Cache County, Utah.
