Husband of Anoinette "Nettie" (Buchanan) McDuffie and later, Margaret (Clay) McDuffie. Father of William R. McDuffie & Nellie (McDuffie) Warren.

During the Civil War, at the Battle of Franklin, he was shot through the right lung, from which wound he marvelously recovered.

He was a prominent contractor and builder in this city and erected some of the most important buildings in Atlanta. He was an Odd Fellow and a member of the Confederate Veterans' Association. He was also a member of the Pioneer Citizens Society.
