"A special thanks to Don Vatne, Kitsap County Civil War Historian, for his research on this veteran."

Additional information submitted:

Porter's mother was Susan Bristol Armstrong and she died inMarch of 1860. Porter is a younger brother of my gr gr grandmother Louisa Armstrong Harned. You can find the Armstrong family on the 1850 census living in NY with Porter being 5 and you will see where Lucy is a sister. I have removed the miss information that was put on sometime before me taking over management saying Lucy was his mother. When someone enters wrong info it can cause big problems if they are using it for Lineal Applications. I have done a DAR Supplement on Susan Bristol Armstrong's grandfather . I also did a supplement with the great info about Porter that someone entered being in the Civil War. I belong to the NSDU through a Chapter in OK and have many Civil War soldiers in my family all on the Union side because all of my family came down from the North eastern states. Several of the Civil War Societies will let you use the siblings of your direct relation now because there are less of the actual people as in the older wars and groups. JMR
