Marie Bergland
Battle Creek----Services for Marie Bergland, 97, Battle Creek, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at the First Methodist Church here. The Rev. Dean Vaughn will officiate with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitaion will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Steffen Mortuary in Batttle Creek.
She died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home.
The daughter of Mikel and Doethea Larkin was born June 26, 1901, in Fremont. She moived to Bloomfield area with her parents and attended school there.
She married Emmet Halsey on July 23, 1919. He died in 1946. She was empoyed by the Norfolk Regional Center for serveral years before retiring in 1965.
She married George Bergland on Oct. 12, 1963. the couple lived in Norfolk until 1973, when they moved to Battle Creek.
Mrs. Bergland was a member of the First Methodist Church and its' Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Mere Card Club for more than 50 years.
Survivors include three sons and their wives Lyle Halsey of Norfolk, Dallas and Julene Halsey of San Leandro, Calif., Roger and Sharon Halsey of Penrose, Colo.; two daughters, Marlene Block of Norfolk, and Judith and her husband , Jay Mitchell of Deland Fla.; one daughter-in-law La Rose Halsey of Boise, Idaho. one step-daughter -in-law, Helen Bergland of Norfolk; one brother Richard Larkin of South Sioux city, Nebr., 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, eight greta-great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husbands, two sons, one step-son and 11 brothers and sisters.
