G. Bergland Rites Planned
Services for George D. Berland, 75, Battle Creek, formerly of Norfolk, will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Battle Creek United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stan LaRue will officiate, and burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Home for Funerals, Norfolk, and from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Steffen ortuary, Battle Creek.
Mr. Bergland died April 18 at Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Omaha, where he had undergone surgery.
He was born Nov. 28, 1906, northwest of Newman Grove to the late Oscar and Ellen Bergland. He married June Kohl and they had one son.
He farmed near Newman Grove until moving in 1945 to Norfolk where he was employed by Norfolk Farm Equipment Company and later by the State Department of Roads until retiring in 1969. He moved to Battle Creek in 1973.
He married Marie Halsey in 1963. She survivies as do one son, Don Berland of Norfolk; six step-children, Marlene Block of Norfolk, Mrs. Jay (Judith) Mitchell of Deland, Fla., Dallas Halsey of San Leandro, Calif., Raymond Halsey of of Meridian, Idaho, Roger Halsey of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lyle Halsey of Bancroft; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 14 step-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers and five sisters, Paul Berglabd of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Victor (Irene) Heggemeyer of Marysville, Wash., Mrs. Ervin (Alice) Frey of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Mrs. Bud (Lois) Loomis of Seatle, Wash., Mrs. Thomas (Easter) McCormick of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mrs. Sam (Ingrid) Broberg of Newman Grove.
