Mr. Long first enlisted in Company H of the 10th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was later promoted to 2nd Lt. in the 45th Infantry and again promoted to Capt. in 70th Coast Artillery, while stationed at the Presidio, in San Francisco, California. He saw service in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection. He is buried with his wife Georgene Shepard Long.
