Nancy Ann Brown Smith, 77, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all, passed from this life into God's loving arms Sunday, March 29, 2009.
Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

"Nan" was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Booneville, Miss., to William Presley and Jewel Lee Brown.

She was employed at First National Bank for several years, later deciding to stay home and take care of her school-age children. She later became secretary at Our Mother of Mercy School under Sister Bonaventure. Nan was employed there until the birth of her first grandchild -- family always came first -- so Nan chose to help in that grandchild's care. After her husband's death in 1985, she went to work at Vought until her retirement in 1997.

Nan loved and taught us all the wonders of life. She had the ability to give everyone "one-on-one" time. Her life was lived with faith and devotion, touching anyone she came into contact with. It seemed as if she had the answer or solution to any question or problem. Her favorite times were spent with her family and during that, she taught us so much.

Nan spent time gardening, reading, watching and caring for the birds and wildlife that graced her property. The back or front porches were her favorite spots for visiting with family and friends. She was an amazing example and lived her life with such grace and dignity through triumphs and tragedies. We were all so blessed to have her as our role model and will carry on the legacy she started.

We love and will miss you, Nan ... but we know you will be watching over us and waiting to greet us in heaven.
The family wishes to express thanks to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 37 years, Eugene Porter Smith; and beloved son, Michael Eugene Smith. God called her home to join them.

Survivors: Daughters, Trisha Jones and husband, Mark, and Pam Prather and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Niccah Crane and husband, Brian, Nansa Cores and husband, Sean, Krystal Cooper and husband, Cory, Beth Gray and fiance, Dion Burnside, Kenli Lynch and husband, Matt, Candace Smith, Courtney Bradley and husband, Matt, Gena Smith, and Michael and McKenzie Smith; great-grandchildren, Erin, Josh and Abby Smith, Kara Gray and Jackson Burnside, Madison, Megan and Marley Cores, London and Lannah Cooper, Mia Smith, Grayson Crane, and two new babies due this summer; sisters, Dixie Hensley and husband, Fred, Sue McGuire, Barbara Muncy and husband, Jay; and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who all loved and respected her.
