Mr. Anton was born Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1917, in Greenwich, Conn., to Andrew and Victoria Zavada Anton.
He was educated in schools in Greenwich and Yonkers, N.Y.
Bill had been employed since 1942 at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., retiring in 1980 from the plant's tool and die department. He also worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable and Alexander Smith Carpeting, both New York.
He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage; American Carpatho-Russian Citizen's and Social Club, Sharon; Westinghouse Clerks Association; and Local 617 of International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Technical, Salaried and Machine Workers.
A Navy veteran, he served in World War II in the Aleutian Islands. In his youth, Bill joined the New York National Guard, through which there were many benefits as a young man during the Depression including uniforms that provided an extra pair of shoes; socially, a place to "hang out" with friends; and, on parade days, meals served to all the troops. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, having worked on projects in the Bear Mountain area of New York.
As a former member from 1942-94 of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage, he belonged to the church's Holy Name Society and participated in the church building fund. He later became a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, joining in 1994, and was an usher and maintained a current membership.
He also was a member of St. Michael's Bowling League, St. Michael's Golf League and Hickory Bowl Seniors Bowling League, and was a bingo worker.
Bill was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, spending most Sunday afternoons during football season watching games with his daughter. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and enjoyed many games at Yankee Stadium while living in New York, privileged to see many of the Yankee legends such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and others.
His wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Thomas, whom he married April 17, 1937, passed away Dec. 5, 1991, in Yonkers.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Anton, Hermitage; a sister, Helen Brylo, Yonkers; and many nieces and nephews locally and in the Yonkers area.
Besides his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Stanley and Michael Anton; and Yulek Anton, who was killed in action during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge.
