John Calvin Piper, 84, Duncansville, died Monday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Duncansville to the late Irvin C. & Margaret P. (Claar) Piper. He married Donna J. Black May 27, 1966. He is survived by his wife; daughters: Penny Basom (Craig) of Duncansville and Pamela Petrie (Dennis) of Overland Park, KS; sons: Travis Ajay, Port Orange, FL and John Stephen Piper; brother, Donald Piper; sisters: Doris Peterson and Donna Stultz; grandchildren: Danette L. Piper, Altoona; Steffan S. Piper, Palm Desert, CA; Tiffany (Adam) Michael, Kelsey Basom and Adam and David Petrie; and gr. grandchildren: Elijah Joseph, Grant Calvin, Ryan Thomas Piper (1989), Zachary Robert Piper (1992), Mikaela Elizabeth Wilt (1994), Fox Austin Piper (2007) and Kieran Ajay. He was predeceased by brothers: Gerald Butler and Irvin Piper, and sisters: Janet Bowser and Margaret Hoefler. 'Cal' was a U.S. Navy, WWII veteran. He retired from Veeder-Root and was a lifelong member of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of Portage Lodge 220 F&AM, where he received his 50-year pin; was past master from 1971-73 and was Tyler and on the Committee on Instruction for many years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thurs., April 2, 2009, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home, Duncansville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Jaime G. Olson. Interment, Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
