John attended public schools in Ocina and Indiahoma, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Holiness Church.

John served in the Army Air Corps Battalion until December 14, 1944, when he was transferred to the Infantry (Anti-Aircraft) and served in the 3rd Army.

John died January 4, 1945, in action near Nothum, Luxembourg, Belgium.
