Raymond G. Hobson, age 88, died of natural causes on Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Yakima, Washington.

Raymond was a man who deeply loved and took great pride in his family. Family and friends describe him as extremely hard working, intelligent, generous, loyal and caring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamming, horse back riding, and building homes and special items for his children and grandchildren.

He was born September 9, 1920, in Camas, Washington, to the late John and May Hobson. He graduated from Camas High School in 1940. On June 10, 1940, he was united in marriage to Wilma M. Hardesty.

Ray and Wilma made Washougal, Washington their home and Ray began working for Crown Zellerback Paper Mill in 1940. Raymond served in the U.S. Army, during WW II, and attained the rank of sergeant. In 1949 Ray founded Mount Norway Poultry and in 1952 he opened Broadway Shoe Store located at the One Stop Shopping Center in Washougal. Ray worked as a construction superintendent for Christensen Construction and in 1972 founded Hobson Construction Company.

Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Leona Demary, his wife of 49 years, Wilma Hobson, his second wife of 15 years, Theo Hobson (Cole/Stoddard), his sons, Raymond Glenn Hobson Junior and Donald Paul Hobson and great-granddaughters Christina Johnson and Myranda Tester.

Ray is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Janice Hobson of Naches, Washington, his daughter and her husband, Tom and Nancy Kille of Magnolia, Texas, his daughter and her husband Gregg and Glenna Hires (Mazzoncini) of Naches and his son and daughter-in-law John and Janine Hobson of Washougal.

Ray is further survived by his 30 grandchildren, Jim and Heidi Hobson, Mike and Diana Morris, Travis and Julie Ingram, Dave and Loni Line, Alisa and Bill Story, Allen and Cyndi Ankiwicz, Phil and Patricia Tester, Shelby Tester, Jodi Munson (Hobson), Lehman and Lisa Hires, John and Sarah Hires, Joe and Jenelle Mazzoncini, Brian Hobson, Zack and Sarah Mazzoncini, Arthur and Jessica Vandyke, Kyle and Jenny Swenson, Matthew Mazzoncini, 39 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Ray was a member of Bethel Congregational Church in Washougal Washington and after moving to Yakima, Washington in 2003 he regularly attended Westside Baptist Church. Ray was a member of the Moose Lodge # 1042 in Camas and a member of the Elks Lodge #823 in Vancouver, Washington.

Memorial services for Raymond Hobson will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Straub's Funeral Home, 325 NE 3rd Avenue, Camas, Washington. Graveside services will be immediately following at Park Hill Cemetery, Mill Plain Blvd. Vancouver, Washington. The Rev. Landis Epp, will officiate.
