Wesley enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, on July 16, 1941, at Ft. Leavenworth. He was discharged on January 11, 1946, at Ft. Logan, Colorado as a Staff Sergeant.
On May 28, 1943, he married Rosalene J. Forsberg. She survives.
Wesley was a member of the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, the VFW, Post # 971 and the American Legion of Hutchinson.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Becky Ratzlaff, Hutchinson; brother, Clinton Ratzlaff, Maxwell, Iowa; sister, Clara Wance, Hesston; three grandchildren, Danna McVey, Austin, Texas, Tiffany Ratzlaff, Hutchinson, Tannar Ratzlaff, Manhattan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sandra K. Lay, two sisters, Hilda Mitchell and Frances Decker.
Memorial Services will be at the South Hutchinson Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson, Kansas on Monday, October 27th, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family greeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held prior to the service at the Restlawn Garden of Memories, Newton, on Monday, October 27th, 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the South Hutchinson Mennonite Manor or the Hospice of Reno County.
