Nelson was the son of Nancy M. Webster and Wyman Aldrich.
He was united in marriage on October 17, 1869 in Ionia Michigan to Miss Emily Louise Wakley. They were the parents of one son, Burton born 1871 Mich.

Nelson was a "cooper". A cooper is someone who makes wooden staved vessels of conical form. There were four types of cooper crafts. Slack coopers for dry ingredients, dry tight coopers for gunpowder, white coopers for washtubs, and wet coopers for beer. Coopers are still employed by wineries.

Mr. Aldrich was a Veteran of the Civil War; 1st Engineers, Company L. He enlisted 5 July 1863 and was discharged in 1865. Graves Registration Database; Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Nelson B. Aldrich Dies Before Receiving Benefit of Special Act of Congress
Nelson B. Aldrich, a veteran of the civil war, died Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Burton B. Aldrich, in the village of Portland, death claiming him before he benefited from the pension given him by congress last month.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon, the Rev. D. E. Millard conducting the services.
