Emma was born April 12, 1917 in Loup City, NE to John J. and Elizabeth (Gappa) Badura. She was the youngest of 17 children.
In 1939, Emma married Huston Martin, who preceded her in death in March of 1990. Together, they had three children, Sharon Lee Barrett, Marcia Ann Maxson, and James Dean Martin. Emma and her family lived in many western states following the construction of many dams in the northwest. In 1957, they moved to Chelan and she opened a restaurant on the lakeshore. In 1960, they moved to East Wenatchee and settled in their permanent home.
Emma worked for many years as a waitress at the Night and Day Cafe in Wenatchee until closing. She then worked at Smitty's Restaurant.
Emma was in good health and enjoyed her retirement for many years. She was a member of TOPS and was an avid member of the Catholic Church. Some of her hobbies included gardening and traveling. Her brother and friend, Herb Badura, from Denver, CO passed away earlier this year. There were very close and loved traveling together.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Antonia, Anna, Elizabeth, Nellie and Ernestine; seven brothers, Alex, Anton, Ben, John, Stanley, Edmund and Herb.
She is survived by her brother, Mike Badura of Nevada; three sisters, Josie Kuta, Florence Chilewski and Grace Smedra, all of Nebraska; her son and daughter-in-law, James Dean and Tammy Martin of Lake Stevens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Dale Yohn Barrett of Yakima, Marcia and James Maxson of Selah; seven grandchildren, John Barrett and wife Stacey of Seattle, Joe Barrett and wife Sue of Wenatchee, Jennifer Wiggs and husband Joe of Wenatchee, Jeff Seals of Wenatchee, Gina Maxson of Selah, Mandy Maxson and fiancé Roy Bruce of Selah and Sidney Martin of Wenatchee; seven great-grandchildren, Rachael, Jay Ryan, Justin, Jordan, Serena, Austin and baby Wyatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
