Former Resident Takes Own Life
George M. Gillman Inflicts Fatal Injury With Shotgun. Body is Buried Here.

George M. Gillman, former resident of near Manchester, took his won life Sept. 5 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lena Bell, near Cornell, Ill. The account of the tragedy is taken from the Streator (Ill.) Daily Times.

"CORNELL, Geo. M. Gillman, 78, who resided with his sister, Mrs. Lena Bell, five miles northwest of here, was found dead, apparently the victim of self inflicted gun shot wounds. His body was found in the Bell garage by his sister. Beside him was a shotgun from which one shell had been fired, which hit him in the upper part of the body. A coroner's jury returned a verdict that the fatal wound had been self inflicted. Mrs. Bell was the only witness to testify.

Mr. Gillman was born in Newtown township, Livingston county, Sept 27, 1858, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gillman, pioneer residents of that community. About 32 years ago he was married to Miss Christina Wilson of Streater moving to Manchester, Iowa, and farming for years. He retired 14 years ago and returned to Streator, Ill. making his home at Streator and later with his sister, Mrs. Bell. Mrs. Gillman had preceded him in death. There were no children.

Surviving are the following sisters and brothers Samuel, Webster City, Alvin Blackston, Daniel, Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Rossa Burton, Manville. A sister, Mrs. Eliza Leonard preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at Streator Wednesday and the remains were taken in Manchester, Ia., for burial Thursday."
