He was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, July 31, 1848 and in 1852 came to this country with his parents, settling in Circleville, Ohio, where they remained for two years, after which they came to Olney in 1854.
In 1881 he purchased the Olney Times newspaper and was editor for about twelve years (1893).
He was twice married. Married to Amelia Bechman in Richland Co, IL on June 17, 1867. She preceded him in death twenty years earlier.
Survived by his second wife (Margaret), two sons and four daughters by first marriage.
