Charles E. COFFING, 64, of 1410 Washington St., died unexpectedly at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital where he was admitted earlier in the day. Mr. Coffing was born July 2, 1917 in Fulton county to Edgar Earl and Sarah Viola DAWALD COFFING. He had lived in Rochester two years, coming here from Cass County. He married Mary JOHNSTON in Cass County on April 12, 1942; she survives. He was a retired farmer and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving with the wife are two sons, George [COFFING], Rt. 1, Rochester; and Dan [COFFING], Rt. 1, Twelve Mile; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Virginia) GRANDSTAFF, Logansport, and Mrs. Steven (Barbara) MATTHEWS, Evansville; eleven grandchildren; two foster-grandchildren; a brother, Sam COFFING, Rt. 2, Kewanna. A brother, Merritt [COFFING], died in 1949. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home in Fulton with the Rev. Terry RHINE officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until the service Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
