Walter A. Ackeret, 73, of Monticello died December 1, 2003 at Kirby Hospital, Monticello. Funeral services were held at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with burial in Monticello Cemetery.

Mr. Ackeret was born September 26, 1930 in Massillon, Ohio, a s/o Walter Clarence and Hazel Welch Ackeret. He married Joyce Dunlap on November 5, 1990 in Clinton. She survives. Also surviving are his mother of Massillon, Ohio; three sons: Edward of Florence KY; James of Alta Loma CA; and Steven of Wilmington DE; a daughter, Beverly Trinkle of Chicago; a brother, Lowell of Navarre OH; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Mr. Ackeret was a truck driver for Advanced Transportation in Champaign and had retired. He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Monticello; Teamsters Union Local 146 and Chicago Elks Club. Memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.
