On Saturday, June 30, 2007, Jesus called out a final "all aboard" to Harold Charles "Butch" Smoger, age 68, at his home in Russell, IL, while surrounded by his family and friends. Born on June 21, 1939, in Russell, IL, he was the son of the late Harold A. and Lila M. Smoger.

He attended schools in Milwaukee, WI. Harold honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. On October 26, 1963, he married his "Earth Angel", Nancy Marie Manke. For 42 years, Harold was employed with the Milwaukee Road and METRA Rail, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends at the Caboose Hop in Necedah, WI.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife; four loving daughters, Eileen Hellwig, Colleen Smoger, Rebecca (Glenn) Luzar, Therese (Patrick) Quick; five precious grandchildren, Amy Marie, Mary Elizabeth Hellwig, Haley Noel, Kurt Charles Quick and Kayla Rose Luzar. He is further survived by his two sisters, Edna (Carroll) Sandmire and Kathleen (Dennis) Keitel; a brother, David Smoger; a sister-in-law, Carol Guenther; three brothers-in-law, Gerald, Robert and Fredrick Manke; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rolf Guenther; and a sister-in-law, Carole Manke.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the PIASECKI-ALTHAUS FUNERAL HOME. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Newport Township, IL. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 2nd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider memorials to Star Hospice of Vista Health or Oakdale Cemetery Association.
