Geo. W. Keith, father of Mrs. John Prowse of this city, passed away at his home in Thorpe Friday evening, June 20, 1913, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at Thorpe, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, and were held under the auspices of the Manchester I. O. O. F. lodge, members of that order attending the service in a body. Rev. C. K. Hudson, pastor of the Methodist church of this city, officiated at the services. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
Mr. Keith was born in Noble county, Ohio, April 20, 1839. When a boy nine years of age he came west and located at Dubuque. Here the family resided for about one year, when they came to Delaware county, settling in Hazel Green township. Here he resided for some time. During the last five years he resided in the village of Thorpe. Prior to taking up his residence in Thorpe he owned and operated a farm near Thorpe.
Mr. Keith was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Vosburg of Hazel Green, this county, in 1861. To this union were born four daughters, Mrs. Effie Cross of Edgewood, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Wandal (deceased) of Edgewood, Iowa; Mrs Eva Bradley of Thorpe, and Mrs. John Prowse of this city. He leaves to mourn his death the aged widow, and the three daughters named, and two brothers, J. E. Keith of Chicago and S. F. Keith of Denver, Colorado. Mr. Keith united with the Christian church nearly forty years ago.
Mr. Keith was a man widely known for his sterling worth and upright character. By his kindly disposition and honest dealings with his neighbors and friends he won the esteem and high regard of all who knew him.
