Katherine (Kathy) Rachael Goyne was born on July 8, 1921 in Ruston, LA to Mr. & Mrs. Jessie and Annie Mae Davis Brown. Both of her parents predeceased her in death.
Kathy passed away at her home with family at her bedside in Yuma, Arizona on the morning of April 5, 2009. She had suffered with a chronic lung disorder that overwhelmed her by the age of 88 years. Kathy had worked in the food service industry in her early life before devoting herself full-time to being a homemaker and mother. She married Felix Childress in 1936 (predeceased her in 2003). They had 6 children together: Helen (T.J.) Dowdy, Dora Ann Robins, Delores Gardner, Philip Goyne, Rick Goyne, and Sandra Neil Miller, who unexpectedly predeceased Kathy by 6 months. In 1954, Kathy married the love of her life Robert Goyne, and he adopted all the children. They made their home in the Great Northwest.
With a household full of children, Kathy's life was hectic as one can imagine. She enjoyed sewing and, for years, made many of her clothes. She had a "green thumb" which she inherited from her parents. She could cook about anything from apple butter to grilled fresh salmon. She enjoyed taking photos of the family and always had a good one to share with you. Also she enjoyed Southern Gosspel music and loved her Lord Jesus Christ.
Kathy was the oldest of her siblings: Surviving her now are sister Pauline Harshfield and two brother Bud Brown and Eylon Brown. Predeceasing her in death were sisters: Beatrice (Bea) Dalton, Deenie Baird, Glenda Brown, Betty Walker and Patricia Britton. Kathy was grandmother of 16 children, great grandmother to 22, and great-great grandmother to 2. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins to miss her.
Kathy's graveside service was be held on April 16, 2009 at noon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Eugene, Oregon where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bob Goyne.
